Areca nut plant coming up
|Areca nut plant coming up
Areca nut plant is coming up by itself from seed dispersed from a nearby tree. Remnant of the seed is seen near the roots, exposed by removal of nearby soil. Sometimes bats also disperse the seeds as they are fond of the fruit. They often eat part of the fruit and drop the seeds somewhere, helping seed dispersal. Areca nut plants grow up to very tall trees, which are a bit fragile and may break during a heavy gust of wind. Areca nut is usually covered with betel leaves by those who are fond of betel chewing.
