Aphids and ants on pea plant
Aphids and ants have a symbiotic relationship. These aphids are also known as ‘ant cows’ because ants are known to ‘farm them for milk’. Aphids feed on plant sap and secrete a sticky substance known as honey dew. Honey due is a favourite food of ants. Ants transfer aphids to suitable locations when needed.
Aphids are a constant menace to my pea plants. I try to flush them out with tiny water jets and they come back again after some time! In between, for some short period, the menace was a bit less, but has recurred.
